'I suspected I was overpaying but didn’t realise how much'

For Jackson, a 32-year-old training co-ordinator from Nuneaton, the hassle of hunting for decent deals on his household bills meant that he kept putting it off.

While he was keen to save money, he never wanted to dedicate hours to researching costs, contracts and small print.

Like most of us, he ended up paying far more than he needed to on his bills. When he joined Nous, we saved him £468 on his mobile bill alone.

What was your approach to sorting out your bills before you found Nous?

I’m the main bill-payer in my household, so I’ve always been the one to review our bills. I’d try to check them regularly, but over time I got comfortable sticking with the same providers.

For example, I’d been with my phone provider for around ten years. The last contract I took out, I regretted. I rushed into it because I needed a new phone, and I didn’t really think about how much it was costing me. It turned out to be too expensive.

What was it that put you off finding better deals?

Mainly too much choice. You have to check all the options, look into their customer service, and it just felt like too much. The whole process was a bit of an overload.

Did you realise you were paying more than you needed to on your bills?

I suspected I was but didn’t realise how much. I’d seen other phone deals, from friends, family, adverts and stuff, and knew mine was on the expensive side. 

I’d chosen it out of convenience. The phone and service were fine, but it was definitely more than I needed to be paying.

How would you describe the process of saving with Nous?

It was effortless. Honestly, I barely had to do anything. Signing up took about five minutes, and next thing I knew, I had a new phone deal offer. It took maybe two minutes of my time. From my end, it was completely hassle-free.

How are you going to use the money you saved with Nous?

My wife and I are in the process of adopting a child, so any extra money helps, whether it’s getting the house ready or just general living costs. 

It also gives me peace of mind knowing I’m not overpaying for things. It’s not just about freeing up money, it frees up headspace too.
