“I thought I should probably look for better deals, but I didn’t realise how much I could actually save.”
Lindsay, a 39-year-old civil servant from London, knew she wasn’t getting a great price for her household bills, but the pressure of tackling it all at once meant she kept putting it off.
The result? Her suppliers snuck up her prices and she ended up overpaying by hundreds of pounds.
Nous saved her a total of £636 on her energy, mobile and broadband after switching her to fair deals.
How did you handle the hassle of getting good deals on your bills before Nous?
Basically I didn’t, to be honest. It’s something I always meant to do, but it felt a bit too overwhelming as a task. I’ve been with many of my providers for a really long time, and I just didn’t get around to switching. For example I stayed with my mobile phone provider after my contract ended, just because I never sorted it out.
What was it that put you off switching to fair deals?
It’s a lot to think about all my bills at once. I’d think, “I should do my mobile,” then “I should do my Wi-Fi,” and it just felt like finding the best deals was too much to handle.
Then I came across Nous on Instagram through an account I follow someone called “That Girl in Debt.” I’ve been trying to be better with money, so I started following a few people who share financial tips, and that's how I got started.
To what extent did you realise you were paying more than you needed to on your bills?
I thought I could save a bit. My mobile phone contract had ended, and I knew my energy bills weren’t great because I wasn’t on a fixed deal so I thought there was some scope to save money. I definitely didn’t realise I could save so much.
My mobile phone was one of the biggest wins – I saved more than I thought I would. And with my internet, I actually upgraded to a better connection. So not only did I save money, but I also got a better service.
What was it like to have Nous handle the switches for you?
It was really easy, and you don’t lose control. I liked the emails and WhatsApp updates.
Nous did all the hard work and I just kept an eye on things. The deals Nous found for me were better than anything I’d seen myself, so it was a no-brainer every time.
I like that Nous looks at all your bills and finds better or cheaper options for you, so you can choose whether to switch. It helped me review what I’d got, see what’s available, and make savings.
How are you going to spend the money you’re saving on your bills?
It will go on the general cost of living mostly. But I’m also about to go travelling, so it’ll help with that.

No-one should be dealing with the cost-of-living crisis all alone. We’re building a new service to liberate households from drudgery and make people’s lives simpler and fairer.
