Nous has problems.
Lots of problems.

But that's exactly what you'd expect when you're building AI agents to take the complexity out of people's households. Doing that well is incredibly hard. Join us and build tech for good and ship work you’re proud of.

B Corp

Certified, and held to it

I'm Glen, one of the Nous co-founders.

When I started building this page, it forced me to articulate why the way we work has made Nous one of the UK's fastest-growing startups, and why that makes it an interesting place to work.

I could tell you it's a great place, but everyone says that, and mostly it isn't true.

We build AI agents that take on people's household bills, a genuinely hard problem, the kind that doesn't have a great answer yet.

What makes it work isn't the tech, it's who we hire and how we let them work.

It isn't for everyone, and I think that's okay. So the rest of this is me laying that out honestly, who we are, and how we work.

An unfair fight, worth picking.

Roughly 90% of UK households are overpaying on their bills, and not because they don't care. The whole system is built to make sure they do: the discounted rate that hooks you, the mid-contract price rise, the renewal they're praying you're too busy to move.

Almost nobody has time to fight all that alone, so we do it for them. Being properly on someone's side is harder than saying it, which is why we're a B Corp, and hold ourselves to it.

What's the culture like?

Small teams, real ownership, and not much standing between you and shipping.

Most companies split the thinkers, the doers and the builders. We don't. The person who feels the problem should be the one who builds the fix.

Small teams, real ownership. You take whole problems end to end, not slices passed down a chain. We believe if we give a sharp person the right tools and enough context, and the gap between spotting a problem and shipping the fix collapses.

Barely any middle management. We haven't built a layer of managers whose main job is talking about the work rather than doing it. Fewer bottlenecks, tighter feedback, and real impact without being promoted into managing people first.

Everyone ships, so engineers go deeper. You'll often work in one of two modes, both hard engineering. In the first, you own whole product lines, AI features at the core of the product, moving fast with one or two others from a rough plan. In the second, you build the safe surfaces: the shared tools and knowledge that let anyone ship without breaking things.

You start safely. Your first 90 days are built to get you to real ownership safely, pairing when you want it, lots of context, and colleagues invested in you shipping.

Everyone ships.

We give our team real scope and the tools to run with it, engineer or not.

Anton, Engineering at Nous

Anton (Engineering) shipped a whole new product line; personal finance and subscription cancellation, just months after joining. Working with design, legal, commercial and vendors, it cleared FCA registration and a strict security review. Elsewhere, that's a whole squad and most of a year.

Gen

Gen (Operations) helps customers switch energy, ships AI features into our ops tools, and builds data pipelines so the team can analyse its own work. One day she's solving customer problems; the next she's shipping product improvements that make the whole team faster.

Bekki, Growth at Nous

Bekki (Growth) got tired of context-switching, so she built a Gmail extension. Now the team gets full influencer context, kicks off automations and has AI review content, all without leaving the inbox. It saves hours every week and keeps everyone in flow.

Ben, Product at Nous

Ben (Product) joined as a PM and quickly started shipping product himself. With engineering setting him up on our infra and context API, he now ships changes to Nora, our WhatsApp agent, only pulling people in when he's genuinely blocked.

What we believe in.

The ideas that shape how we build, decide and work together.

Change begins at home. You have more power than you think. Start with what you can control.

Tech to power. Use technology to empower people and improve real lives, and help redeem its reputation.

Solve for people. We're on the side of people, tackling problems households don't have time to fix alone.

Be good company. Good business does the right thing for people, now and for the long term.

Action this day. We're impatient for progress. Purposeful action each day, and we resist inertia.

See through. More open, transparent and responsible, and we won't give up the fight against unfairness.

You'll work with builders.

Real ownership, real trust, and the freedom to ship things that would normally take much bigger teams.

How does Nous hire?

It's short, and built around one question: could you help us build something good? A chat with your future manager, then one with someone close to the work you'd do. A half-day together, a real problem, a couple of 1:1s, maybe a coffee from Leather Lane. Then references, a chat with Greg (our CEO) with questions both ways, and an offer.

Does Nous offer benefits?

Real salary and meaningful equity, when we win, you win too. 33 days off, including bank holidays. Health and dental cover. An employee assistance programme. Remote flexibility for when you need your head down. The kit, setup and training to do your best work. Travel benefits and cycle-to-work. A proper office where you're in the room for the big decisions. A social most weeks. Very good coffee.
