'I knew my bills were high but sorting it out was too frustrating'

Andrew, 62, is a reporting manager who lives in Hampshire with his wife and two dogs.

He knew he was probably paying more than he needed to for his bills, but the hassle of comparing deals and trawling through the small print always put him off.

He joined Nous after his employer, Peabody, rolled out membership for their employees, and saved more than £500 a year on his energy bills.

Before you joined Nous, how did you tackle the job of getting fair deals on your bills?

I’m time-poor and so I’m not very good at it. Even if I did find a better deal, it always felt like there was some sort of catch.

I didn’t want to work through all the details of what was out there. I’m very happy to hand it over to people with more expertise as I hate doing it.

We live in a very old house that’s very draughty and poorly insulated, so I’m keen not to spend ridiculous amounts on energy.

Did you realise you were paying more than you needed to for your bills?

I hadn’t looked at a deal for several years, and I was sure I could get a better one but never got round to it.

I know I pay too much for bills – the pet insurance for my golden retriever alone costs a fortune.

I know it’s too much, but sorting it out and battling the small print is too frustrating.

Plus they rarely pay out and always find a reason not to. Premiums keep going up and they hide behind the small print and that sort of nonsense.

How did you find the process of getting started with Nous?

I came across Nous through my company Peabody. I knew I needed to do something about my bills so I thought I’d give it a go.

Nous then did everything for me, which was great.  I also liked that you use WhatsApp. I use it constantly and I miss emails, so WhatsApp is my go-to.

When I asked a question someone answered pretty much straight away. It all felt straightforward and well organised.

What are the biggest benefits of being a Nous member?

It’s the hassle reduction for me. Nous is well organised and took the grief away. The money matters to me but the convenience matters even more.
