'I had no idea how much I could actually be save on my bills'

“Thinking about bills just felt impossible. I remember talking to my mum about it and saying it felt like something I just couldn’t face. It always felt like it would take energy I simply didn’t have.”

Lana is a 32-year-old mum who lives in Northamptonshire with her two-year-old daughter. The demands of parenting and running her own business meant she never had the time or energy to think about saving money on her bills.

As a result the prices kept creeping up and up, and she ended up overpaying by hundreds of pounds a year. Nous saved her £713 by switching her energy and broadband to better deals.

How did you go about getting good deals on your bills before you joined Nous?

It had been on my to-do list for a long time, especially over winter when we were at home more and using a lot more energy. I knew I needed to deal with it, but putting aside the time felt almost impossible.

It’s just me and my daughter, who turned two in January. Life is busy. Being self-employed while juggling everything has been challenging, especially because for about 18 months she’s had some medical issues that have taken up most of my attention and focus.

I heard about Nous on social media, and I liked the idea of someone else taking a bit of pressure off my shoulders. That really suited my lifestyle and the stress I already had going on in my head. It felt like a job I could take off my list – something I didn’t have to do myself.

Did you realise you were paying more than you needed to on your bills?

Not really. It’s such a common topic at the moment – everyone feels like their bills are extortionate. You just assume that times are harder and this is the new normal.

I knew the money going out felt awful, but I had no idea how much could actually be saved. Finding out that nearly £1,000 could be saved just on energy and broadband alone was insane to me.

How do you think you’ll use the extra money you’ve saved with Nous?

There’s nothing specific where I’ve thought, “That’s exactly what it’s for,” but I’d love to be able to take my daughter on holiday in the next couple of years.

I do invest anyway, so anything extra I can put away, I will. It won’t be reckless spending, it’ll go towards nice things in the future. I’ve already started a monthly pot for Christmas 2026.

What do you think stopped you from searching for deals before?

Definitely the time it took.  You never know how long you’ll be on hold, and if my daughter needs me, I can’t just stay on the phone.

I think that’s the same for a lot of mums – you can’t just put an hour aside every day to sit on hold. If the call drops, you put it off again. That was a big barrier for me.

Saving with Nous on the other hand was so easy, you basically do nothing. I just put in a few details and they did the hard work of finding better deals. I’ve told people they need to do it!
