Lara – who’s 32 and lives in London – admitted she “paid no attention” to her bills.
Like most of us, she had better things to do in her free time than spending hours checking her contracts and making sure she was paying a fair price. She let things tick over in the background, and never thought much about it.
When she joined Nous, she didn’t know she was paying more than she needed to, until we saved her £200 a year on her broadband alone.
Did you realise you were paying more than you needed to on your bills?
I didn’t have a clue. I didn’t realise until I joined Nous and got a message to say I could save.
Sorting the bills was something that I probably didn’t really do well at all. I’m really nonchalant about things like that.
As long as it’s paid, I don’t even question how much I’m paying, how long I’m paying it for – all that kind of stuff. I paid no attention to it.
I was put off by how long it took, I don’t like using my time that way. And also there was a lack of education behind it. I didn’t know what was a good deal or what was a bad deal.
How are you going to spend the money you’re saving with Nous?
I’ve already got myself a Disney+ subscription, then there’s still going to be more left over after that.
Can you think of a time when you’ve been burned by a bad deal on your bills?
Yes, with my mobile bill – I was with the same provider for about eight years. I do feel at some point they should have reached out to me and let me know I could be paying less, but they didn’t. In the end I had to change provider to get a better deal.
How did you find the process of saving with Nous?
It was very quick and very easy to sign up. Straight away I started getting messages about how I could save, and switching was really simple.
I was really reluctant to do it with my internet provider, because I thought it was going to be such a hassle and I’m a bit lazy.
But then Nous found me a saving and it was so simple. I literally didn’t do a thing and everything went smoothly.
What else have you enjoyed about Nous?
A big benefit for me is that all the work is done for you. It’s straightforward and clear and you save money.
I guess if I really took the time and searched around myself I’d have found better deals. But the fact that you don’t have to do that part is probably the most important thing for me. There’s no headache.
I also like the communication – being kept up to date over WhatsApp is a much better form of communication for me than emails.
Diana, 48, lives in London with her teenage daughter and works as a housing operations manager. Nous saved her more than £300 on her energy bills after she joined through her employer, Notting Hill Genesis.
No-one should be dealing with the cost-of-living crisis all alone. We’re building a new service to liberate households from drudgery and make people’s lives simpler and fairer.
